Camry Hybrid to be Reasonably Priced

Filed in archive by philip on March 29, 2006

Camry Hybrid
Toyota's newest hybrid, the 2007 Camry, will undercut the Honda Accord hybrid by several thousand dollars. The Camry will start at $26,480 when it reaches dealers in May, whereas the Accord has a sticker of $31,540. The two manufacturers have approached the concept in entirely different ways, however. Whereas Honda's Accord is all about performance, with a V-6/electric drivetrain that puts out a combined 253 hp, the Camry aims at fuellinks economy. It will feature a high-tech 2.4L four-cylinder giving 187 hp when combined with the electric motor. Toyota claims a mileage of 43 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The base price includes an uplevel stereo, cruise, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power driver's seat and automatic climate control. Since fuel economy and cleaner air are the two rationales for hybrids, the Camry seems the more logical choice.
