Carroll Shelby Brings Back The Super Snakes
Filed in archive by Gunnar Heinrich on April 30, 2007

Racing legend Carroll Shelby is at it again. The automotive designer who's produced some of the most ripped muscle cars the automotive world has ever seen, heard, and smelt (the torched brakes and rubber of, that is) is set to reintroduce the legendary and limited Ford Shelby mustang
GT500 "Super Snakes." For those confused (I don't blame you) Shelby and Ford have already collaborated to build the Shelby GT, GT500, and GT-H (^ pictured ^) versions of the current Mustang. But neither seems satisfied to stop there - especially in light of the hyper-powered foreign competition.
"I told [my team at Shelby Automobiles] that I wanted to build a vehicle that could blow the doors off of most anything on the planet. By partnering with Ford Racing, we're giving enthusiasts a Mustang with that level of performance." Mr. Shelby said in a recent press statement.
The original Super Snakes looked eerily similar to the current 'Stang but sported the old 427 big-bloc engine that won the hearts and minds of street racers across America.
The next generation of Super Snakes will upgrade 2007 and 2008 GT500s to 600 horsepower or 725 horsepower. FoMoCo wishes potential buyers to note that the 725 hp option will not be covered by warranty.
A "limited number" will be built at Shelby HQ in Las Vegas late this year through the next.
