Drivers' Oath

So, I've been working on the 4DriversOnly.com Drivers' Oath that I promised a few days ago.

Here goes:

Please gather up a copy of your state's DMV Handbook and your car's owner's manual. Place your right hand on the good books, raise your left hand and repeat after me:

I, [state your name], as a loyal reader of 4DriversOnly.com, the most informative, entertaining car blog on the English-speaking, left-hand* driving web, do hereby promise:
  • That I will use my turn signals every time I change lanes and every time I make a turn, even if I don't think there's anyone in the way;
  • That I will pass on the left, not on the right, unless absolutely necessary;
  • That I will move to the right to allow faster traffic to pass whenever safe and possible;
  • That I will not tailgate, nor will I use my high beams to intimidate slower drivers in front of me;
  • That I will use my horn for emergencies only, and that I will not use my horn in anger;
  • That I will obey the spirit of the yellow lights, slowing or stopping if possible instead of racing through the intersection under the red light;
  • That I will drive first, talk on my cellphone later. If I absolutely must use my phone while driving, I will conduct short conversations and use a hands-free set-up, keeping my eyes and mind on the road at all times;
  • That I will not eat while I drive, nor will I drink hot beverages while driving.
  • That I will not consume alcoholiclinks beverages of any kind during or before driving.
  • That I will continue to read 4DriversOnly.com, and that I will tell all of my friends about the site.
That's the oath. Please take it seriously and, oh, if you see a car with manufacturer's plates, please give way -- it might be a car reviewer out for a test drive.

*If you're in the UK or Australia or Japan or any other right-hand drive country, thanks for reading, and just switch the "left" and "right" references in the oath.
