Ford Goes Hat-In-Hand To Toyota
Filed in archive by Gunnar Heinrich on December 26, 2006

Pardon for spoiling the excitement, but there's been an electric wave that's hit the blogosphere recently that needs a little dampening.
It has been reported that since Ford lost its #2 automaker status to Toyota and that the Japanese car maker is poised to take #1 from GM as soon as January, the Blue Oval CEO Alan Mulally has sought a meeting with Toyota's top brass for a possible deal between the two companies.
This is where speculation runs wild. Will it be a DaimlerChrysler merger of unequals? Or merely a partnership that has been as productive
as the one GM currently (ahem) enjoys with Toyota on R&D. Or nothing at all - just a social call?Time will certainly tell. But the news certainly does not look good for FoMoCo as the appearance is of Detroit going hat-in-hand to a confident, secure Japan.
The question remains > why visit Toyota instead of Honda?
