Honda Plans Production of FCX Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle
Filed in archive by kai on January 11, 2006

vehicle technology, Honda announced that it will begin production of its next generation FCX hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle in three to four years. The production car will closely resemble the FCX concept vehicle unveiled four months ago in Tokyo and now on display at the Detroit Auto Show. One barrier to fuel cell vehicle commercialization has been the need for high-capacity yet lightweight and compact hydrogen storage. Honda has now successfully expanded storage capacity - a newly developed hydrogen absorption material in the tank doubles capacity to 5 kg of hydrogen at 5000 PSI, extending cruising range to 350 miles, equivalent to that of a gasoline-engine car.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz and all the other celebrity green car drivers are probably already on the waiting list.
