You've seen films sweep the Oscars for awards - best picture, best actor, best key grip, etc. In the automotive world, there are J.D. Power & Associates quality awards and it generally looks good when a car company is able to take home a trophy or two.

How it works is through extensive research J.D.'s committees are able to assign "best" categories to companies whose products and service perform above and beyond customers' expectations. Car manufacturers, their cars, their service departments all are ranked against each other (for the consumer's benefit, of course).

This year marked a respectable three years in a row that the troubled Premier Auto Group (PAG) marque Jaguar took home the gold; in this case #1 in Sales Satisfaction.

Previously, the British luxury car maker had to share the honor with Japanese rival Lexus. This year, the methodical perfectionist dropped five places to list beneath Cadillac, Lincoln, and Porsche, respectively.

Jaguar also won 4th place in satisfaction with dealer service (Lexus was #1); 5th place in initial quality (Porsche was #1); and beat BMW for 8th place for long term dependability (Lexus was #1). All in all, an across the board improvement in quality for a car company that lacked it entirely just 15 years ago.
