Return of the Scirocco

New VW Scirocco
Volkswagen's Scirocco is gone but certainly not forgotten. Produced in three series, with the last, supercharged model possibly the most desireable, the Golf-based coupe was an enthusiast's favorite for its fun handling and affordable price. Now, according to Auto Motor und Sport magazine (link is in German), a new Scirocco is on the way and should bow in North Americalinks sometime in 2008. It will cost around $28,000, somewhat less a bargain than earlier days but still a reasonable price for a handsome coupe which will no doubt be a performer. But with the new GTI offering so much "go" in a good-looking package, will buyers be willing to pay a premium? Scirocco enthusiasts certainly will, and there are plenty of those around.
