CAR magazine has lifted the curtain on BMW's next and third SAV which BMW ("Sports Activity Vehicle" in BMW speak) the X6. Except it would appear that BMW will drop the V from SAV for the latest 4X4 and call it an "SAC" instead. So that's two SAVs and one SAC.

Any guesses as to what the "C" stands for?

"Sports Activity Coupe". Ever since Mercedes-Benz introduced the monstrosity known as the CLS, the definition of "coupe" has stretched to envelope anything with four doors - and now a rear cargo hatch, apparently.

CAR also reports that the X6 will be followed in 2009 by new models that BMW will cheekily call "FAV"s or "Family Activity Vehicles". Give me a break.

One thing seems sure. BMW's Benz-like model expansion will jeopardize the marque's Fav. status amongst car enthusiasts and collectors.
