Splendid Splinter

I don't know if you have been following the exploits of a group of graduate some students at NC State. They have been working on a car called the "Splinter." Why name it Splinter? Well it's made out of wood.
Before you laugh, the world's first wooden supercar, with a planned top speed of 240mph, can sprint from 0 to 60mph in just over three seconds. The 15ft-long, two-seater Splinter, made from maple, plywood
and MDF, has a 4.6 liter V8 engine and a six-speed gearbox. It weighs less than the lightweight Porsche 911 GT3. Despite its power, it will achieve 20mpg, according to its designer, Joe Harmon.I
follow Harmon's progress daily at his blog. Take a visit to learn more about this most cool project.
