Toyota Yaris in LA

Another impression from the LA Auto Show:
While it may not light the fires of auto enthusiasts in the same way as the high-zoot exotics, the 2007 Toyota Yaris is going to make a big impression in parking lots around the US next year. A big impression with a small footprint, that is.
The Yaris is Toyota's replacement for the Echo, the cheapest car in Toyota's lineup. Yaris has been available in Europe since 1999, and will arrive here in three versions: A two-door hatchback, a four-door sedan notchback and a sport-themed sedan. Under the hood you'll find a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder engine cranking out 106 hp and 103 lb ft of torque with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission
. Expect EPA numbers around 34 city/40 highway. Here's where the cheap will show: ABS, side airbags and side-curtain airbags are optional. The rear suspension is torsion beam. Front brakes are 10" discs, but rear are 7.87" drums.
Base price starts at $10,950 for the hatchback, $11,825 for the sedan, hitting showrooms in Spring 2006. Talk about your perfect second car, or a first car for a college grad.
