Unique Drives - Hamburg

Filed in archive Unique Drives by Jeff Bressler on February 16, 2008

This has to be one of the most unique drives in the world. Under the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany is a strikingly beautiful tunnel that was built in 1911 and still in use today.

The Old River Elbe Tunnel connects central Hamburg with the island of Steinwerder. What makes the tunnel so unique is that the entry points on each side of the river are via freight elevators.

Due to the small size of the tunnel, by modern standards, it is now used mostly by pedestrianslinks, cyclists and smaller cars. Take a quick drive with us via YouTube.
