Texting And Driving: A Deadly Combination

Texting And Driving: A Deadly Combination

Due to the rising statistics of cell phone related car accidents, the law prohibits the use of a cell phone — whether for texting or calling — while driving a vehicle. In 2008 alone, there were 500,000 injuries and 6,000 deaths associated with this deadly combination.

A research study that involved simulation of the driving experience, proved that cell phone use while driving is as deadly as drunk driving. It also showed that the amount of time people take their eyes off the road when texting equated to the amount of time it takes to drive the length of a football field.

Moreover, texting impairs the cognitive ability of a driver twice as much as that of alcohol while holding a device while driving results in reaction time delays equivalent to that caused by a .08 blood alcohol concentration.

All in all, using a cell phone while driving increases a person's risks of meeting an accident by four times. The act has been banned in most parts of the world for the last couple of years now. The statistics are real, isn't that enough warning for you to listen?
